Support Independent Journalism

The Transcript does not accept advertising. This is, financially speaking, a choice.

The Transcript is editorially independent. We are not owned by a media conglomerate, a telecommunications company, or a billionaire who has not yet decided what to do with a newspaper. We answer to our readers and, to a lesser extent, our legal counsel.

We do not run banner advertisements, sponsored content, native advertising, promoted posts, affiliate links, or any other arrangement in which the commercial interests of a third party influence what appears on this page. We mention this not to be self-congratulatory, but because it explains why we are asking you for money.

Our journalism is free to read. It will remain free to read. A contribution, in whatever amount you consider appropriate, allows us to continue operating in the manner to which our staff has become accustomed, which is to say: modestly, but with conviction.

Select an amount, or enter your own below.

Contributions are processed securely. The Transcript is grateful for your support and will not, as a matter of policy, send you a tote bag, a thank-you mug, or a letter from the editor describing at length what your donation means to us. It means we can keep going. That is what it means.

If you would prefer to support The Transcript by subscribing to our newsletter, which is free, that is also appreciated. The newsletter is available here.
